Happenings 09.26.24

Hello everyone!  A note from the Grand Knight, John Foley:   – I just wanted to thank everyone who came out and supported and or helped out with the .1k. I am happy to report it was a success, with $1600 going to Special Olympics Maryland. Big thanks to Tom and Lisa Chestlo, PGK Timothy + Susan Keifline, PGK Paul + Ingrid Wood, PGK Dave Allesandrini, PGK Patrick Macy, Joe Scafone, and the entire Adamczyk crew for helping out with the event! The weather was perfect and I think everyone had a good time! A big thanks to our sponsors, Charlie Kenney, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market of Calverton, and Steve Adamczyk!  If you have not checked out Grocery Outlet, you should, as it is an interesting store with some good deals (this is where I buy my food donation stuff, see below!)
Program Ideas:I have two ideas for some quick, easy, and effective programs1. Keep Christ in Christmas – This is a supreme council sponsored program that runs a poster contest for elementary and middle schoolers. The theme for the posters is, obviously, “Keep Christ in Christmas”. We will be partnering with St. Joseph’s Regional Catholic School. The current plan is to distribute the materials/forms sometime at the start of November and have a due date of December 2nd. We will hang the posters at the Clubhouse and judge them, and the winners will be awarded before the kids start winter break. 2. Baby Pantry – Many organizations run ‘food pantries’, and St. Joseph’s even runs a “clothing pantry”, but why not run a “Baby Pantry”? The general idea is that people could donate lightly used or even new baby supplies, which we in turn can donate to the Pregnancy Aid Center or anyone else who may be in need. I got this idea when I was cleaning out a closet a few weeks ago, and found a TON of baby supplies from my kids which were in remarkable shape (unlike now, where as teenagers, they basically destroy anything that they touch). I don’t mind running it, but if anyone else is interested in helping plan and coordinate this, please let me know! I am not ready for donations quite yet, but keep an eye out. And here are your other reminders- 🦀 – The crab feast is upon us, next Sunday, September 29th, at 3:00PM. Get your tickets at the club or at the door! Want to learn how to steam crabs? Come on up early and lend a hand! Hopefully, we can get PGK Timmy Keifline up there early and we can show him how to properly handle crabs.🥫 – The food donation box is up and ready to collect your donations. It is under the member sign in book (which, by the way, is up to almost $400, so sign in!). When you are at the grocery store, keep an eye out for stuff that is marked down, because they are usually trying to clear out some stock. I got like six cans of veggies the other day for $2.50.🩸- The blood drive is November 11th. Reach out to brother Arnie Powell 301-277-3431 if you wish to sign up, as there are a few slots left! 🏎️ – Mustang and Fast Ford car show is on October 5th. If you know anyone who has a nice Mustang or show car, let them know!🙋 – Know any good Catholic Gentlemen? We met our membership goal, but let’s keep the momentum going. Did you know we are the second largest council in the state? We are not terribly far from being #1, but we have to keep on recruiting! The worst thing anyone will tell you is ‘no’. Vivat Jesus! John FoleyGK Queen of Hearts is over 13,000 dollars!!  The fun starts every Saturday at 7:30 pm with Bar Bingo but of course you can purchase your Queen of Heart chance anytime!  The Friday night dinner special is Filet with mashed potatoes, a veggie and dessert for $20.00.  Please pre-order here:  Online Survey Software | Qualtrics Survey Solutions
